Installed on the cool mining site of Harchies, on the old "carreau de la mine du Rivage", this museum could be born thanks to the support of the municipal authorities that understood the importance of the industrial archeology and the memory of the workingclass for the younger generation. It was created in 1992 by Jeannot Duquesnoy and his team and was officialy ingaugurated in may 1, 1993.

A part of the material of the museum was lent to Claude Berri for the film « germinal » with Gérard Depardieu, Miou-Miou, Renaud and Jean Carmet.

The visitor can not only admire all these richnesses from the past but he cah also learn a lot from the precise, and anectodic comments of J.D., a truely inexhaustible story teller.

After this very interesting visit, a halt is essential : the pub located on the first floor proposes «the old vintage of the museum on the mine » within a convivial room where one can admire the very beautiful « strained glass » of the cool mine of Hensies – Pommeroeul thanks to the dynamism of its found and his team, the museum grows each year by new parts and accomo dates more and more visitors.
